Title: Use a gamepad with DC3?

jgz1 - March 5, 2011 10:21 PM (GMT)
Anyone use a gamepad with DC3? I just got a Logitech Precision gamepad and would like to try it. Seems that under preferences a gamepad is an option but I can't get this one to work with DC3. The gamepad is recognized under System profiler. I don't hae a lot of games so I can't really try it on another.

Sorry, just tried it with MacMame and the controller does work.

My daughter has been wanting to play this game but she only wants to use a game pad. She doesn't want to use a keyboard and mouse and keeps telling me its "too hard".

I have a logitech dual action gamepad and we are playing the Mac App Store version. Is there any way we can get it to work? And the game said it supported game pads but there was nothing in the options menu. Help guys!

DC was never really envisioned to be playable on a gamepad; and whilst some have tried it, there's no way you'll survive the harder rooms (and difficulty levels) with a game pad. It's just not cut out for it.

That said, DC3 does offer gamepad compatibility; or did at least prior to 1.4. I don't own 1.4 so can't vouch as to whether it has been removed or not. Someone here may know; but I can imagine there being app store guidelines about 3rd-party plugins [and the not allowing thereof].

Basically DC3 v1.3 and earlier needs ZSculpt's proprietary `HID wizard' plugin (available from here). It probably won't work on 64bit kernels. If you can install it; you should then be able to configure gamepads using the `Inputs' button on the DC3 preferences screen which is available by clicking on the `Options' button from the main screen or `Prefrences' from the `Dark Castle 3' application menu.

Well... actually, I have personally beaten the game on advanced with my Logitech wireless. ;) The new 1.4 version has built in SDL support for pretty much any USB gamepad. Works quite well!

I have a Logitech Dual Action, and it works with other software, but when I open Preferences for RtDC, the option to set it up is grayed out.

I'm not sure how to remedy this.

wow; how do/did you aim rocks with any alacrity? Do you have aiming on a hat-switch or what..?

Good to see you posting again though! :)

That is my problem as well. I would hold Alt then click on RTDC and a menu would appear. I can't even select the gamepad.

I'm jealous that some of you guys are able to use a gamepad. :(

Sorry if this is less than obvious now... Just open the hero key config screen, click on a key, then press a button on the joystick/gamepad. Another config screen slides out to allow assignments for aim, pause, etc.

Cheers!

I'm just used to playing a lot of FPS games on the Xbox... It's definitely tougher than a mouse but certainly do-able.

Got it working now.

Thanks a bunch!

EDIT: After playing the Shield 1-4 levels, I'm really good at aiming rocks, but the d-pad isn't very smooth when going from running forward to climbing a ladder. I'll try the analog stick.
