Title: Problem with replay recording

MagicSpell - August 26, 2010 01:10 PM (GMT)
Hey there!

I have a problem with replay recording in DC 3. Whenever I'm unsatisfied and want to delete the recorded thing, this error message appears:

Error: Unable to rename existing file "New Replay 4.dc3replay."

move to trash

When I click the OK button, the game breaks down and I have to start it again. This happens almost every time I'm recording a replay and it's really annoying!

I play the game on Snow Leopard, but the error is nothing new to me, this also happened when I was playing the game on my old computer.

Can anybody help me? Not that it would bother me a lot, but it's really annoying to have to start the game again and again after deleting a replay.

I excuse for my english, by the way.

This is an unfortunate problem with RtDC. Fortunately I have a perl script you can run which takes care of the problem by automatically. You can run it in the terminal under your OS X perl, and the kill it when you're done with DC.

If you've never used terminal and that is all greek to you, do the following:

1) Download the attachement.

2) Open Terminal.app

3) In terminal type (without the quotes) 'perl ' (note the extra space after the word `perl')

4) Drag the `trash_replay.pl' you downloaded (after decompressing the .zip) from the finder on to the terminal window.

5) In terminal, hit <return>

When you're done, you can just close terminal, or alternatively, you can hit <CTRL>+C to kill the script. Otherwise it will run for as long as you keep the window open for. It is harmless to have it run all the time if you want.

As an afterthought; be warned that replay play-back is generally broken, and you should make sure the replay does play successfully for you before uploading. Chances are very high (especially on multi-room replays) that things go wrong and you get back something that is completely broken. :(

Thank you Richard, that worked! Now I can delete them if I'm unsatisfied. Thank you!
