Contacts:
Relatives: Dr. Phillip Lewis (Father), Dr. Mary-Margaret Lewis-Stringham (Mother)
Allies: Parent’s Associations and colleagues, largely unknown by him
Enemies:

Personality:
Inquisitive and curious, Calyx enjoins learning new things. He is less enthused about doing new things, though, and is hesitant, resistant, and sometimes even whiny when he is being coxed into a different environment. He has never had friends in abundance, and over compensates in social settings, sometimes bragging and willing to take ridiculous dares that terrifies his more recluse nature, just to get some social appreciation. He prefers the company of girls, more than guys, though rarely acts on the crushes he quickly develops with his gal pals.

Talents:
Wings – Calyx sports a pair of transparent blue insect wings. They allow him to fly with perfect maneuverability, even stopping suddenly, hovering, or turning near instantly in flight. They can be repaired or replaced when Calyx sheds his skeleton. They are too flimsy to be used in combat, but can cause strong gusts of air, though at this point no stronger than to stir up loose papers or leaves. Calyx is able to fly at speeds upwards of 100 mph. His wings are similar to those of a damselfly, and can fold flat down his back. They are just under 5 feet in length, and hang down to his ankles, but are flexible enough that they can be hid under loose clothing, and with effort extended down loose pant legs.

Exoskeleton – Calyx can grow exoskeleton armor. Doing so is very painful for him, though it takes less than 30 seconds to be complete. It provides great physical protection, being able to prevent damage from kicks and punches up to a low caliber firearm; but against energy like electricity it provides no more protection than a think jacket might. As the exoskeleton gets worn, it starts to deteriorate and will need to be shed. His armor grows on top of his skin, and gives him a skeletal appearance. Thick Brow plates give a bug eyed impression, but his normal eyes are left uncovered and unchanged. The exoskeleton can develop under slightly looser fitting clothing; otherwise it will tear through what is worn.

Calyx can shed his exoskeleton at anytime, which is a completely painless process, though it takes several minutes and some pulling and rubbing to accomplish. Calyx can never shed his wings, but in a molting he can repair them. He can not regrow his exoskeleton within an hour of when he sheds it, and cannot grow it more than four times in any 24 hour period.

Acid Spit – His first power to manifest. His body developed acid secreting glands and two spray organs along the inside of his mouth. Calyx can spray acid 15 to 20 feet, which corrodes organic material and soft matter rapidly. This spray can be spread out over a width of five feet, or be concentrated in a single stream. It is less effective against harder, inorganic substances (plastic), and ineffective against dense stone or hard metals (steel). Necessarily so his internal organs and tissue have developed a resistance to his own acid, though acids or poisons of another nature effect him normally.

Intelligent – Being the son of two acclaimed academics has given Calyx both nature and nurture boosts to his learning.

Flutist – Practicing since the first grade, Calyx can play both the Flute and the Piccolo very well.

Weaknesses:
His wings are powerful flying instruments, but do not take physical damage well. He is also limited in how often he can grow his exoskeleton each day, no more than twice, though he can wear it an indefinite amount of time while it is on. He also has problems stepping up to new and scary situations, making him a follower more than a leader. Calyx has lots of practice flying, and manifested his acid at an early age, but has no practical experience in combat.

History:
Doctors Phillip Lewis and Mary-Margaret Stringham met while doing graduate studies. Phillip proposed after a three year courtship, and they both took positions teaching at a college level in Boston. There His career in Botany took off, and she became well respected for her analysis Shakespearean writings. In addition to her literary expertise, Dr. Lewis-Stringham had a superhuman aptitude for research and critical thinking; superhuman intelligence. Her true love for literature ruled her career choice decisions, but both her and her husband freelance as consultants for research teams internationally.

In the greater Boston area they raised their only child, Calyx. Baptized and Christened Catholic, under his maternal grandmother's insistence, Calyx Laertes was named for both of his parents academic loves. While never practicing any particular denomination, his family is fully christen and spent Sundays studding from different versions of the Bible and comparing it to other religious texts.

Calyx young childhood was quiet, and normal considering the type of academic conversations that would occur over dinner. With so little health problems in his life, Calyx’s parents were deadly worried when he started manifesting supernatural powers of his own at age seven. He began vomiting acid, and was withdrawn from public school for two years until he learned how to control it. During this time he was taught by tutors, and graded by his parents and kept up with school. His parents started looking into alternative forms of education.

After returning to public school, Calyx kept his powers secret. He traveled occasionally with his parents as they gave guest lectures or consulted on scientific projects. He began acting in youth Shakespeare companies, and got slightly above average grades in school.

His specialized adaptive organs in his mouth were kept quiet from the school by having him only visit close professional associates of his parents for dental and medical treatments. He kept going to public school through his freshmen year, barely getting by socially. His parents planned to keep him enrolled until his powers developed more.

During a stressful night of cramming for an important test at school Calyx found his pulse rising and his breathing growing heavier. Pushing his chair back from his desk he stood up to go get his parents. He fell to the floor and curled up and pain shot through all of his skin. His cries brought his parents to the bedroom where Calyx was growing a black exoskeleton over his own skin and blue transparent wings.

Frequently over the next few days Calyx involuntarily shed and grew his new skeleton, and was looked after by the few trusted physicians that knew about unique anatomy already. Calyx no longer attended his previous school, and the Lewis’s again began looking into an ulterior institution for his education. One of their academic associates had had dealing with Claremont Academy in the past, and made the phone call for them.

Almost immediately Calyx was packed and sent south to Texas. Before he left his mother suggested a codename for his son, Ekron, a city that is remembered in history now for its worship of a Fly Lord.
