Calyx had gotten up and ready for the day with plenty of time to spare. He couldn’t help feeling anxious about returning to class after leaving and reappearing at the school without any notice to any of his classmates. Calyx wanted to slip back into the everyday school routine without anyone commenting on his absence, but he had little hope of that happening. He tried stalling getting to class by doing his hair several times, washing out the gel between each attempt. Finally he knew he had to get down to math – he was never the type to be late for class.

He walked to the classroom reciting sonnets in his head as he went. Several minutes later he arrived outside of the geometry class with his books in his arms. He still had a few moments before he needed to take his seat and he lingered outside the door. At least he had kept up with his studies and had nothing to worry about from the coursework.

Summary: Calyx is nervous about being in class again, but what can you do?

Bleep bleep bleep *whump*

Tara rolled over in bed and her arm flailed out clumsily to blindly knock at the alarm clock’s off switch. It was Friday morning, the end of what felt like a long drawn out week at school. Of course, there had been a few nights where she felt like she hadn’t gotten any sleep at all, and it was catching up to her now at the end of the week. She grumbled into her pillow, and forced herself to sit up. Just one more day and then it would be the weekend. She just needed to plow through one more day’s worth of classes.

With Evie likely up earlier or not even in the room, Tara was not too concerned about her alarm disturbing her roommate. Nonetheless, she had made sure that the alarm wasn’t the kind with an infuriatingly obnoxious tone. She wasn’t sure how her roommate did it though. Evie never seemed tired, despite regular late night training sessions.

Half stumbling and half falling out of bed, Tara proceeded with her morning pre-school routine, washing up and getting dressed. When finally ready, she grabbed her school bag and a granola bar from a drawer in her desk. She rarely woke up early enough to drop by the cafeteria before class.

Tara made her way to her math class, where she noticed a pair of very familiar wings on a student with his back to her. Instantly she was fully awake. “Oh my god! Calyx is that you?!” She rushed excitedly up to the boy to confirm what she saw. Tara gave him a light hug when he noticed her, then released him and took a step back. “It is you! You’re back! I thought you had left the school for good. But I heard someone arrived at the school yesterday. So it was you? Wow! Where have you been?!”

Summary: Tara is surprised and happy to see an old face.

Calyx wheeled around when he Tara’s voice. “Well Miss Baikova, how did you recognize me?” He said with a grin as he spread his wings out to his sides. He gratefully returned the quick hug. “I was starting to think there wasn’t anyone left at this school that I knew!” He looked the girl over quickly, and with a laugh added, “Tara, it looks like you just got out of bed.”

“Yeah… I’m sorry I just disappeared. My parents got in a nasty car accident – they’re doing okay now – but it was pretty scary for a bit.” With his free hand Calyx started playing with the hair on the back of his head. “Dad was just a little banged up, but Mom had to stay in the hospital for a couple weeks. She’ll be in physical therapy for a while, but she should make a full recovery.” He gave a small shrug as he went on, trying to downplay just how terrifying that first week had been.

‘It was good I went home… but Massachusetts isn’t anywhere near as exciting as Freedom City.” A smile had crept back on his face. “I want to hear about everything I’ve missed!”

“Hey!” exclaimed Tara. “I didn’t just get out of bed. I’ve been up for like a whole 15 or 20 minutes!” She faked a displeased frown at the fact that he would make such a comment, and then grinned. “No kidding though. There’ve been a bunch of new students arrive since you’ve been gone, and of course other students leaving all the time too.” Tara shrugged. “I still keep in touch with Kemi through e-mail. She even helped me find a dress for Valentine’s Day by sending me a bunch of links and pics.”

Tara’s frown was real though when Calyx explained his absence. “I’m so sorry to hear about your parents. Glad though that they’ll be alright.” She touched him sympathetically on the shoulder. “You alright though?” she asked picking up on his unusually casual shrug.

“Oh man… everything you’ve missed?” Tara exhaled, trying to think back. “Phew, um, well you’ve only been gone like a month or two right? Seems like forever though, eh?” She put a hand up to her chin in another brief moment of recollection. “Well, like I said, we got some new students around, which I guess you might have noticed. Other than that, it’s been business as usual here… if there’s such a thing as ‘usual’ here. I dunno… I went to LA for a mission a few weeks ago. Screwed up royally though… Thought I was helping someone get out of a hospital, but I showed up late and didn’t know the room was meant to keep the guy locked up. Opened the door and nearly got shot by some mob boss. Yeah, hospital patients with guns wasn’t exactly something I was expecting. That day was über shitty.”

Dylan would slowly wheel up, his hair a bit dishelved, but that worked for him... he yawned widely... Pausing as he saw one of his team mates... the cute one... He smiled lightly at her, waving a bit... which caused him to move even slower before moving his hand back down to his wheel, he looked exhausted... who's idea was it to have MATH first thing in the morning? He sighed softly as he wheeled through the door to take his own seat... well... more like his own spot.. just a desk, no seat really... he brought his own seat, wherever he went.

"You in a dress? I'm sorry I missed it! Is Kemi doing well? I really need to send her an email again, its been a while... so who did you go with? I mean, um, did you have a date?" He couldn't help feeling a bit jealous at the thought of one of the other students taking Tara out. Not that she'd blame her. Truth be told he had never been to a dance before, never really been on a date, any one else would be much more of a 'catch' than him.

Calyx gave a smile as she touched his shoulder. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm fine now, anyway. I mean... I'm fine." He gave a nod, trying to show that he really was okay but didn't want to keep talking about it right now.

"So let me get this straight. You "rescued" a guy who then tried to shoot you? That's just -" He was at a loss for words, and moved on shaking his head. "I wish I could have been there to watch your back. What would you have done if you had gotten shot? Last I heard Canadians weren't bullet proof."

Calyx paused as the new student rolled by. He followed him with his eyes as the boy smiled and waved at Tara and kept moving. As he moved into the classroom he leaned closer to Tara. "I thought Sheridan was the only blind student here. Do you think he even noticed that I was standing here? Or maybe he's just as awake as you were a second ago - that would explain. Who is that guy?"

“Oh I know… freakin’ dresses. Kemi made a good choice though, and she’s doing well. I think she really missed home while she was here, you know?” Tara chuckled and stuck a tongue out at Calyx. “A date? Pfft… What do you think? Curcio taught me how to tango during it though. That was really sweet of him. I mean, it was mostly him dancing and then me desperately trying to follow along. There was the other guy from the private school too. Oh yeah, I guess mentioning that some kids from St. Eustace were invited to the dance is a pretty important detail. We were all told to keep our abilities on the down low of course. Some of’em were cool, but some were real douche bags or grade-A bitches.”

Tara crossed her arms in front of her and looked towards the ceiling. “Welll… To be honest I don’t really know what happened. It was all really fast. Canadians are definitely not bullet proof seeing as I kind of did get shot before that. Let’s just say that by the end of the day one of the real superheroes in LA had patched me up TWICE, and some of my teammates weren’t too thrilled with me for the hospital thing and other reasons… But hey, lesson learned. Lesson learned real good.”

Tara smiled brightly at Dylan as he passed, returning a small wave.

“Hey be nice!” replied Tara to Calyx. “That’s Dylan. He’s pretty new obviously. He’s got like this bad ass force field thing going for him. He like shrugged off a grenade or something in our last mission. We’re on the same team at the moment. Come on! I’ll introduce you guys,” she grabbed Calyx by the arm and dragged him over to the other boy. “Hey Dylan! Wake up! I’m supposed to be the sleepy one during morning classes, and you’re not allowed to take my job. This is Calyx. He was a student here earlier in the year but had to spend some time back home recently.” She grinned at both of them. “Dylan, Calyx. Calyx, Dylan.”

"Okay, I'm sorry." Calyx responded to Tara, feeling a little sorry he had gotten snippy "I'll play nice with the other kids." He allowed himself to be dragged into the room, not minding Tara holding his arm and genuinely looking forward to meeting the boy. "A grenade, really? I'm pretty sure that would crack my shell open like a peanut. Was that on your LA mission?"

He reached out his hand during the introduction. "Hey, its good meeting you. Liking the school so far?" Calyx asked the question cheerfully enough. He always felt a little out of place meeting new people, but he had learned to push on through the first conversation until he felt comfortable around them.

Dylan smiled softly, sleepily. He was so not a morning person...

"Oh... hey... nice to meet you," he said, "It's alright... math as a first period class... and first period being so early... is so not my idea of fun, but not a bad place, pretty cool..." he said shaking his hand in a firm grip. Moving around with a wheel chair gave him a pretty decent build.

"Haven't met everyone around here yet though, just my team for the most part," he said, winking toward Tara. He was a bit easy to smile at the moment, though when Tara had first met him at the Valentine's Day Dance he didn't seem so eager to be all smiles then. "And for the record, those force fields have a pretty hefty cost," he added smirking a bit. Tara had seen his bloody nose after he had the chance to relax afterwards... though he had also been worried about Nadia... and he hadn't seen her afterwards, so he still, pretty much was. Even with the assurances she'd be okay.

Summary: Dylan is able to talk and form complete, coherent words when dead to the world... and having a preoccupied mind.

“Oh no, no… not the LA mission,” Tara shook her head at Calyx with a smile. “No, this mission was just last week actually, over by Wading Way. I was shot significantly fewer times.” She nodded with a grin. “We kicked the ass of some water-controller. Er well, the butt kicking came mostly from Evie, Curcio, and Darien, but we had their backs!” The smile spread across her face faded slightly. The mission had gone more smoothly for her personally, and in fact had been the trigger point for her the evolution of her electromagnetic manipulations. However, it had come at a price. Whatever had happened in her own mind probably wouldn’t have been possible without Nadia’s close call. It was an uneasy thought.

Tara peered quizzically at Dylan. “Hmm… well I dunno exactly what was happening with you, but it looked better than what a grenade would normally do. I… I hope those nose bleeds aren’t something ... worse?” She frowned, distracted somewhat by Dylan’s own distraction. She looked silently over to Calyx and then back again to Dylan. “Hey, are you… you okay?”

Featuring: Autumn
Where: Math class
When: Feb 25th, prior to class start

Autumn entered class, not sleepy in the least. She'd been up since 4 am doing a workout and running through all of her martial arts drills. She didn't stay in such good shape by magic or by powers. She had stayed up until, ironically, about midnight the night before chasing Freebooter. She almost had him, and would soon be paying him a visit. She had promised after all.

She took her seat and opened her book, tucking white hair behind her ear as she pulled out her homework. She wore her usual black body suit with a charcoal tank top over top and a pair of black pants, combat boots on her feet. Once she was finished laying out her notebook and pencils, she turned sunglass clad eyes to the others and nodded at them.

She didn't comment on their conversation, not having powers or caring what they cost to use. It seemed silly to complain about being able to shove off a grenade or not. Then again, she was human, and would never be able to.

She knew the two boys here had interest in Tara and that didn't surprise her much. Statistically romantic relationships were more likely to happen when two parties were in a stressful adrenaline ridden situation, such as missions. Add in hormones and the fact that besides Autumn, Tara was now the only female in class and it was easy to tell who the guys would be into. Autumn was too hard, too dangerous, and too uncaring about relationships to ever be considered for and possibly even interested in one.

Summary: Autumn enters the room.

Dylan shook his head, then smiled toward Tara.

"Huh? Oh... no... it's not that bad... my fields just come from concentration... I have it up too long... or take too much of a beating... it hurts my head... well, it'll start that way... then I get the nose bleed. After the nose bleed, my force fields will begin to flicker soon after... then I'll loose consciousness... so, gotta be extra careful out there... and that grenade had taken a nice chunk out of me," he told her. "Other than that, I'm perfectly fine..." he said, taking note of Autumn as she enterred. He had gotten to see her in action briefly during his first, and only, so far, crash course. Granted, he was a bit preoccupied with fighting his own opponents. She was, regardless, rather impressive. He glanced back to Tara. "Though there was one thing... you hear anything about Nadia?" he asked her a bit softly.

His mouth opened in surprise as Tara spoke. "You were shot again? You need a body guard - or babysitter. One of the two." He shook his head out of concern, "you really will have to fill me in on all the details later."

As Dylan spoke he tried to be empathetic, after all he could understand the whole self-pity party because your powers weren't perfect drill. He understood that very well. But the way he kept winking at Tara made him feel less generous with his sympathy. Calyx reminded himself of the attachment he felt for the students who were on his team for his first, and also only, mission. Especially those who had come to his aid. Maybe that explained all of the attention directed towards the technopath. Maybe.

When Autumn chose to acknowledge the three of him he lifted his hand in salutation. "Good morning, Autumn. How are you?" he said with a smile. She had never seemed like the kind to trade pleasantries, but he felt like it was the nice thing to say. She couldn't hold it against him anyway... at least calyx hoped not. Calyx knew that Nadia was the resident psychic, but he always felt that Autumn could tell exactly what he was thinking. And while he was thinking that, Nadia's name came up in the conversation.

"What happened to Nadia?" He squeezed his question in right after Dylan's. Calyx wanted to make sure he got the important details.

“Yeesh,” she said to Calyx. “Sorry, I think I got you confused about our recent missions. I wasn’t shot again. Yeah, I’ll fill you in on the details later.”

When Autumn entered the classroom and cast the group a nod, Tara gave her a small wave. “Hey Autumn,” said Tara quietly. Everything Autumn did, even the way she greeted them, seemed to be hold an intimidating level of fierce intensity. It was actually reminiscent of the aura that surrounded the Headmaster. Frankly, between Ash and Autumn, the other girls in the class were a definite force, though the former was absent from the Academy at the moment.

Tara frowned sadly. “No… no I haven’t really heard anything about Nadia. I mean, I’m sure she’s fine, but I haven’t seen her around this week. Actually, I heard her from Mr. McNeil that her powers are growing or something. I guess kinda like mine.” She shrugged and rubbed the back of her neck anxiously. She then turned back to Calyx. “She uh… she was hurt in our last mission…”

Summary: Tara doesn't have much information to give about their teammate.

"Ah, no! No, no, non!" Jean-Pierre had been quite tired the night before, and he'd been trying to catch up on a little sleep that he'd lost, spending some time with Juliet. The sound of his alarm clock buzzing was loud enough to wake him in short order, and he all but leapt out of bed and pulled on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, something that normally he wouldn't wear to class at all. Grabbing his books, he backed up to his wall and ran right to the door to class...

And popped out of the wrong end, almost crossing the hallway completely and having to stop himself against the wall. Breathing just a little heavy, more out of panic than anything else, he managed to calm himself down a little bit as he realized that he wasn't late after all. Or at least the teacher hadn't come in yet. There was surprise on his face when he saw a student he'd thought was gone for good, and he clapped the boy on the side of the shoulder, saying, "Calyx?! You are 'ere again? It is good to see you, my friend! 'ow 'ave you been? We t'ought that you were not coming back! 'Allo Tara, Dylan, Autumn. 'ope you all are well."
