Title: Answering a Summons
Description: 28th, Evening
Midnight - February 24, 2010 03:46 AM (GMT)
Featuring: Autumn
Where: The Dormitories
When: Evening
Autumn was not the type of girl to leave a trail that lead to her actions. When she read the bulletin board she didn't respond. Instead she filed it away. Once she was finished with her own side projects, she left her room. Stalking down the hallway, ghostly white and dressed in her trademark black. She had a purpose, and ignored everyone else as she stood in front of Gordo's door and knocked. The sound was authoritative and demanding. Impatient, Autumn waited for an answer. She had work to do of her own, and a person to stalk if she could leave the campus. Gordo better be in his room, or she was going to ignore his request entirely.

Checking his door, Gordo was waiting for Alex to get back, and he could see that he'd accidentally put the lock on the door, or maybe she had or something. It didn't matter much. Unlocking it and turning the knob, he started to say, "Sorry babe, I didn't kn...". Autumn was standing there, looking for all the world like she was considering beating his ass, and there weren't many times in his life that he was more thankful for his powers than he was right now. "Oh, Autumn, hey, what's up? I thought you were Alex..."
Standing in the doorway still, he moved back to let her in the room. It was pretty clean with no clothing on the floor, and on his desk, there was a picture of Gordo, a very skinny white woman, a large black man, a young blonde girl that looked a lot like Gordo and the woman, and a dark skinned baby, all of them smiling and looking incredibly happy. "Come on in. The reason I sent you that message was because I knew that you were good at, like, building stuff." He figured that he'd cut to the chase, because Autumn definitely was a cut to the chase person. "I wanted to see if you could help me make something that'll stabilize me while I'm zooming around with my powers, make it something close to actual flight. I got a little spoiled when I was using a flight harness that Mr. O'Connor brought with him to our flight training class."
Synopsis- Gordo's clean, and yet the room still has that faintly jock-ish scent...

Her stride long, Alex headed back to Gordo's room with a jump drive in hand. She'd found footage of her next opponent and wanted to watch them with Gordo to try and pick her apart. She was happy she was with the kind of guy that liked sports and her fights. From what she'd seen with the other guys, not many liked a girl who was strong and active.
"Gordo, Ah didn't manage ta that book on boxin' that ya'll wanted," Alex said as she entered the room. "Hey Autumn," she said. She wasn't particularly surprised to see Autumn, and was unruffled by her presence. She'd seen how the younger girl fought and knew it would be quite the spectacle if they went at it. Neither of them seemed eager to fight, which was probably for the best.
She sat down on Gordo's bed while he spoke, slumping against the wall in her typical baggy jeans with holes in them, a white a-shirt and a flannel long-sleeved top that was a little too long, and a pair of Converse knock-offs that were scuffed and torn . Her hair fell into her eyes and she didn't wear any make-up. Even the way she sprawled on the bed was masculine. She never thought a guy would look past that, but Gordo had managed. She didn't know yet if that was a great thing. She figured she'd know if/when they broke up if it was worth it. For now she watched Gordo and Autumn with half closed eyes and an air of apathy.

Autumn kept her expression bland at Gordo's inappropriate greeting. She moved into the room and took everything in with a quick glance. She was irritated with him but liked how neat he kept his room. She especially liked his forthright attitude towards her. She didn't waste her time on plesantries.
"What exactly did you have in mind? Do you want to be able to fly using your own powers? How much kinetic energy do you need to achieve flight?" Her questions were quickly delivered. Her thoughts raced ahead as she created and discarded ideas for what she wanted to do.
She nodded toward Alex. She respected the girl and her fighting abilities. She knew that she would beat Alex in a fight if they were allowed to use any fighting style. Still, Alex was an adept fighter and didn't use her powers during a fight. She was one of the only students that didn't use her powers often. Still, Autumn's mind didn't touch on those facts. Instead she was focused Goro, the weight of her gaze not diminished by her sunglasses.
Summary: Autumn is being as friendly as she can.

Gordo's expression brightened when Alex got back, and he touched her on the hip as she moved past him and went to sit down on the bed. The regard that the two girls had for another was something a little odd to him, but they were both martial artists and both really damn good at what they did, so he figured that was the reason for the slight detachment in both of their tones. "What I'm looking for, I guess, isn't so much something that will actually activate my powers so I can fly, but something for steering. When I had that harness on before, it was really cool, but I can add the thrust myself. I just need something that'll help me slow down and avoid hitting something that I don't want to." Having two girls in his room felt a little bit strange, although he was only interested in one of them. He just hoped that he hadn't gotten Autumn's help for nothing; she didn't seem like the type who liked being annoyed.

Autumn focused on Gordo alone. Alex was not part of this, and her presence alone did not dictate further conversation. She listened to what he said, then promptly discarded it.
"What I am willing to make will be a pair of gloves, boots, and a pack for your back containing wings. There will be kinetic triggers in each that you will be able to activate to use enough kinetic energy to flight. The wings will be able to pop out and allow you to glide. The kinetic energy will be able to be adjusted to allow you to direct as much force as necessary for lift off, landings, and to direct the speed you will use in flight. Is that acceptable?"
She was watching him as she spoke, and her words were in the measured emotion free tone that gave nothing away. If he wasn't willing to accept her offer, she was not going to offer anything else up. She had defined her parameters, and she was unwilling to budge. She knew what she had in mind would help him. Besides her meticulous planning on how to disable and/or kill every other metahuman she had knowledge of, Autumn also planned out what technology would be of the best use for them. Accepting this 'job' was for her benefit alone. That he would also reap some rewards was inconsequential. She wanted to test the mental schematics for the invention she wished to create. If he didn't want it, then she would continue to work on the explosives she was creating in her room, thanks to the by-products of soap making that Curcio was consistently giving her.
Summary: Autumn is ready to make a deal now.

Looking back to Alex and showing her a slightly confused expression on his face, Gordo turned back to Autumn and said, "Uh, yeah, okay, I think that would work a whole lot better than what I was thinking of. Might take just a little bit for me to get a hang of it, but if it can help out everyone else, well, it's not like it's a bad thing, then, right?" The thought of being able to do something under his own power instead of just bouncing around like a ridiculous pinball or something.
"Well, uh, thanks Autumn. I mean, I know that we really haven't talked a whole lot or anything like that, but I really appreciate that you're willing to do this for me. If it's going to make things easier for me and the rest of my team, I think we'll be on pretty good footing then." Turning to Alex again, he said, "I won't be going through any more windows or walls or anything like that again."

Autumn gave one sharp nod. "Excellent. I will have it to you in three days. You will need to arrange Crash Course time to be able to test it." With that, Autumn executed a sharp turn and headed out of the room. Her part of the conversation was over. She was not going to continue talking. She had things to do and she did not have time to waste.
Autumn headed into her bedroom. She sat down at her desk and booted up her computer. She wasn't going to work on the boosters for Gordo, yet. She studied her schedule then penciled in work time for it. She sent a message to the Headmaster to notify him of her agreement. Then she pushed the thought of the invention aside.

Alex watched the conversation from her spot sprawled out on the bed. She had pretty much expected a reaction like this. You couldn't convince Autumn to do something she didn't want to do. You certainly couldn't make her change her mind on whether things are worth while. Even a favor would be more of her own making than an actual favor. Alex liked that about the girl.
Once the negotiation.. or rather once Autumn told Gordo what he'd be getting, Alex grinned. "Did that go the way ya planned? Ya seem a bit dazed. Talkin' ta her's like bein' in a fight."
Summary: Alex still likes Autumn.

"Yeaaaaahhhhh... I'm actually pretty amazed that it got quite as far as it did, to be honest. She's a nice girl, way deep down, but whoever raised her probably didn't let her get out and socialize a little bit. Still, it's pretty cool that she's going to help me not be such a schlubby human missile when we're out on a mission, right? That's got to count for something. And she didn't really have to do it, so I'm just going to thank my lucky stars that she didn't get offended or mad or anything for some reason and just tell me to fuck off, because I'm sick of not really being able to control where I'm going." Rubbing the area between his eyes with his thumb and forefinger, he shook his head. "You want to go work out or something? I've got some nerves I have to go work off. I felt like a rabbit getting chased by Vijana just there."

"Ah don't think she likes ya much, ta be honest," Alex drawled. She always sounded languid enough to be lazy. "Luckily, Ah've got a soft spot for ya. Autumn's just the way she is. She's worked hard for everythin' she's got. Ya can tell just from lookin' at her. She ain't had an easy life. Ah doubt she's doin' it for ya, much more like she's doin' it for herself. Luckily what ya want ain't too far from what she's been wantin'. Ah doubt anyone'd be able ta convince her ta do what she ain't wantin' ta."
"Ah'm more than willin' ta work out. Ah'll get some sweatpants on, and Ah'll meet ya in the hall." She got to her feet, kissing Gordo on his cheek. She grinned then headed out into the hallway with the swagger she almost always had. Much more of a men's walk than a woman's.

People could say what they wanted to, and he'd heard that at least a few people had thought that Alex was a lesbian or had a sex change or something like that, but Gordo definitely loved her for her attitude. She was like one of the guys most of the time, but she was still a girl and they had a lot of chemistry with one another. It was a shame that she wasn't really into team sports, but he figured that even trying to change her would be doing her a disservice because she was great just the way that she was.
Walking to his room to get a wife beater style shirt on instead of the one he was wearing, Gordo thought a little about what Autumn was doing for him and couldn't help but feel optimistic about it. He still wasn't a hundred percent sure that he was cut out for all this superhero stuff, but if he had the chance to be better at it, to learn how to control himself to where he maybe didn't even need something like they'd talked about anymore, then it was worth it. Thinking about the thought of getting to fly and not collide with things, usually hard things, he pulled his shirt on after taking his old one off and he walked out into the hall to wait for his girlfriend.

Alex was in her room, dressing to work out. Two sports bras, a pair of yoga pants, sneakers. She wasn't really concerned with looking good. Function way over form for her. She knew the people at the school thought she was lesbian, and she'd been mistaken for a guy more than once. She didn't really care either way. She was what she was.
Once dressed, she headed to the stair case. She liked working out with Gordo. It was always better to exercise with someone to compete with. They raced sometimes on the treadmills, and Alex often lifted weights with him. She was very into Gordo. He was a good guy, her dad approved, and he didn't seem to mind that she was more athletic, better at fighting, and stronger than he was. She didn't mind that he was second to her in those areas. People were what they were, and she didn't get why they seemed to insist on change everyone else.
She grinned when she saw Gordo. "Ready?" she drawled, a bottle of water in one hand. "Ah'm wantin' ta work out 'til Ah drop. If mah limbs ain't shakin' I ain't doing it right."

Carrying a big sports bottle with him, Gordo nodded and said, "Yeah, I can feel you on that. I'm thinking about taking a new whey supplement that my Mom sent out to me. She knows that I'm trying to put on a bit more muscle and tone up a little more right now, and it's one of those ones where you take it after the workout with some milk, so I'm going to try and really just shred my muscles today so I can build them back up even stronger. You wouldn't mind if I got a little bigger in the chest and shoulders, would you?"
His own outfit was pretty close to hers, just a Colorado Rockies t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants with some athletic shoes. He knew that they were looked at as the school jocks, but it didn't matter to him. They were healthy, and they both had bodies that the other enjoyed. Other than that, it really didn't mean anything, what people said.

Alex looked interested. "A new supplement? Ah'll have ta take a look at it." She genuinely liked to learn new things and of new products. Lifting weights and keeping in shape was more than just something she did. It was what she enjoyed. She smiled. "Ah don't think Ah'd mind. If y'all are happy, Ah'll be happy. Ah just like knowin' ya keep in shape."
Once they were in the gym, she headed to the sound system and hooked up her MP3 player. Early Filter began to play as she went back to the machines. Gordo didn't mind that she listened to the grungy hopeless music that she did. She got onto the elliptical stair climber and started to go slowly at first, though she'd speed up a lot. "Ah'm gonna be in a new weight devision. Ah could try droppin' weight before the fight, but Ah don't like that sort of thing. Ah want ta be in the weight group Ah am naturally. So Ah'll be going up a little ta Super Lightweight. Ah was maintainin' 130, but now Ah'm 'round 136. It's more muscle." She shrugged and drank some water.

Watching with quite a bit of interest as his girlfriend (he felt comfortable in calling her that, even though they hadn't talked a ton about the situation) started on the elliptical machine. "I thought you'd put on a little more muscle lately, especially right in your quads. I like it a lot, and I'm glad you're not trying to cut really quick before your fight or anything. It can be way dangerous from everything that I've read up on. Besides, I like you natural. But does this mean that you're going to be fighting women who are a lot bigger, or is it just like a ten or twenty pound range?"
Moving onto the Nautilus after he put his weight belt on, Gordo started with his maximum press weight, knowing the machine wouldn't slip and kill him if he started to crap out. Putting up thirty reps before he couldn't get any more up, he grunted, his biceps and shoulders and pecs burning like crazy. "When's your next fight, anyways?" he asked, watching Alex as he rubbed his muscles a little.

She grinned at him sideways. He'd noticed she'd put on muscle? She hadn't thought it was obvious. Hell, it wasn't. So he knew her well, apparently. She thought it was... nice that he noticed. "Ah'm the weight Ah am. Ah ain't goin' ta try 'n' dehydrate myself just ta get inta a fight. Ah wasn't trained ta be like that. Ah'll just be fightin' people within 5 pounds. They're different than the folks Ah've fought before. Should be interestin'. Ah've been in the last weight class for 'bout 3 years."
She watched him do the weights, prepared to help if he needed. The machine should be spotting him automatically, but she wasn't going to let him be squished. "Ah have a fight in 3 weeks. Ah'm trainin' a bit harder since Ah'm in a higher weight class. Ah should be fine." She was moving steadily starting to break a sweat. She didn't mind, sweat was part of being an athlete. "Ah've been sparrin' with a boy at the gym. He's a bit heavier, 'bout 150 or so. It's been interestin' and Ah've won more than Ah've lost."

The mention that she'd been fighting a guy at the gym sent an odd little twinge through Gordo's brain and he fought hard to keep it from showing on his features as he thought about it. The idea that there was some dude punching his girlfriend in the face and stomach, let alone hugging up close on her in a clinch and getting to feel what her body was like, that thought rankled Crash a bit and he turned his face away for a moment as he composed himself. Turning back, he nodded and said, "That's cool, I guess. If it's good training for you, then it's all good, right? Besides, I'm sure that there's a lot of guys who you could whup up on all day."
Moving over to the leg press after toweling the Nautilus down, he set the weights for three hundred, figuring he'd do more reps for a little bit of definition, not that he really needed it. "I put in that application for the city football league, the one for teenagers? I figure I'm going to have to start practicing again if I'm going to get my arm where I want it, though. My spirals have been really sloppy lately."

Alex didn't notice Gordo's discomfort as she continued to work out. She shrugged, "Ah don't mind it much. The only clue Ah'm a girl is that Ah wear a sports bra accordin' ta the guys there. Ah hit hard as they do, and am better with in-fightin'. My sparrin' partner's always askin' for a girl's point a view and Ah ain't got nothin' ta say. Sometimes all of us go out for a bit after practice and sometimes Ah get hit on by girls thinkin' Ah'm a boy." She shrugged. She didn't realize like Gordo would that her sparring partner was hitting on her. If she spoke of things more or Gordo showed up to the gym, he'd be sure to notice it.
"It's good y'all are tryin' out." She tossed her sweaty hair out of her face. "Ah can try ta help. Ah can catch 'n' throw a ball. Ah just ain't got much interest in playin' organized sports." She pushed more of the wet hair out of her eyes and finger combed it back. "If ya don't want mah help, Oli'd be good for it. She likes the stuff ya do." Alex didn't even think to be jealous or to worry about what could occur.

There was a little bit of protectiveness coming out in Gordo as he finished up with his first set of reps, breathing in and out rhythmically a few times as he lay on the bench. "I want to start coming to more of your fights," his tone matter of fact as he spoke, "I figure that I should be doing a little bit more to cheer you on, you know? It's important, and if you're willing to throw a ball and catch with me, I should be willing to come and watch you knock some people unconscious. I guess it's just a little bit hard for me to watch you get punched in the face, you know? I know you can take it, and that you love boxing, but you're still my girlfriend." The thought that she had guys drooling over her in the gym made him feel a little irked too, but that wasn't something he was going to bring up.
Starting on his second set of reps, he said, "I'm going to ask if I can hang up some tires so I can practice targeted throwing, but having you outside and working with me will really help, even if it's just timing me during windsprints and stuff like that. You're too good to me, you know that?"
