| QUOTE | Game/Game Series: Golden Sun Character name(s): Ivan Age: 15 Gender: Male
Appearance: Ivan appears as a short human boy with blond hair and purple eyes. He wears a purple robe with a green cape.
Powers, Training and Weapons: Ivan is a Jupiter adept, meaning that he serves the role of an attack mage in the first two Golden Sun games. He specializes in wind and lightning spells. Jupiter adepts are also granted several other abilities including the power to read minds (Mind Read), the ability to see things that are veiled from the naked eye (Reveal), and the power to see into the future. Aside from these powers, Ivan can also fight with staffs, short swords, and rapiers.
Weakness: Jupiter Adept’s aren’t known for their ability to take damage. While Ivan can devastate his enemies with his psynergy, He won’t be able to take a lot of physical punishment. He’s also not very powerful when it comes to physical attacks. The Jupiter element is also known to be in conflict with the Venus element. In simple terms, the two have a low resistance against attacks from the other making Ivan weak against earth based attacks.
Personality: Ivan is mild-mannered and reserved, possibly as a result of his upbringing under the care of the merchant, Master Hammet. He does whatever he can to help those in need and cheer up those who are upset. In Isaac’s party, Ivan was seen as the quiet member (not counting Isaac who fills the “silent protagonist” role in the first game) who thought carefully before taking action, unlike his ally, Garet. However his time spent traveling with Isaac and eventually Felix, made him slightly less reserved and more outspoken.
History: Isaac and Garet found Ivan very early in their quest in the town of Vault, just south of Vale. When they found him in the mayor’s manor, both groups were surprised by the other’s ability to use psynergy. After reading Isaac’s and Garet’s minds and witnessing the events in Mt. Aleph, Ivan asked the two if they could help him recover the Shaman’s Rod from a group of bandits hiding in the village somewhere. After the bandits were arrested and everything they stole was returned to their rightful owners, Ivan departed for Lunpa to rescue Hammet while Isaac and Garet headed for the Mercury Lighthouse. Discovering that he had no way of passing Lunpa’s sealed gates and no way back to Kalay, Ivan quickly rushed to find Isaac and Garet feeling that he owed them for helping him in Vault. As the group traveled to Imil they encountered a Mercury Adept named Mia who served as the guardian of the village and the Mercury Lighthouse. After failing to prevent the lighting of the Mercury Beacon, Ivan consoled Mia, who considered herself a failure for being unable to fulfill her duty, and convinced her to join Isaac’s group to prevent them from lighting the remaining 3 Elemental Beacons. As they tried to circle around the continent of Angara (the bridge that would have shortened this trip was still destroyed from Mt. Aleph’s eruption) The group met Master Hama in Lama temple. Though Hama seemed to know Ivan, she refused to explain how she knew him, believing it would only create a distraction from his quest. She did, however, teach Ivan to use the power, Reveal, which they needed to cross the Lamakan Desert. After crossing the desert and fighting off a large manticore that guarded a cave at the end, the group found themselves in Kalay, the town where Ivan was raised. There, Ivan met with Hammet’s wife and his adoptive mother, Layana, and explained what happened in Vault. At that time, Layana told Ivan that Hammet was saved by Jupiter adepts when traveling to the Atteka continent. These adepts gave Hammet gold and a the Shaman’s Rod and Ivan (who was a baby at the time) hoping the merchant would be able to help the boy fulfill his destiny. From this point, Isaac’s group travels to the continent of Gondowan hoping to reach the Venus Lighthouse before Saturos and Menardi. After receiving the Cloak Orb from Babi in Tolbi, Ivan once again returned to Lunpa, now possessing the powers to bypass the gate and sneak past the guards to rescue Master Hammet. Dodonpa, the current leader of Lunpa and its bandit empire, sent in a giant toad monster to kill the group before they could take away his means of extorting gold from Kalay, but the creature was slain and Ivan’s master and foster father was saved. Finally, Isaac’s group reached the top of the Venus Lighthouse and even succeeded in defeating Saturos and Menardi. Unfortunately, the group was unable to prevent the Venus Beacon from being lit. Causing a massive earthquake that caused part of the continent to break off. After watching Felix dive off the lighthouse in an attempt to save Sheba, Isaac’s group knew they would still have to pursue him since Felix was still intent on lighting the Lighthouses.
What happens to Isaac’s group between the Venus and Jupiter Lighthouses is mostly unknown. Though some people tell Felix that they saw Isaac’s party searching for him, the two groups never encounter one another until the next lighthouse. As the two groups begin to ascend to the top of the lighthouse, Isaac’s group actually comes close to making it to the top before Felix, however, a trap set by Menardi’s sister, Karst, separates Garet and Mia from Isaac and Ivan. Before the two could help their friends, Karst and her partner, Agatio, ambushed the two and attempted to kill the two while they were still fatigued and without a healer. As the battle continued, Ivan was the first to fall, distracting Isaac from the two Mars adepts to try to help his friend. Before Karst and Agatio could finish off the two, Felix stopped the Proxians and convinced them to spare Isaac. After the lighthouse was lit, the two groups met in an abandoned house in Contigo and agreed to join up to light the final Lighthouse in order to bring order back into the world and prevent it from eroding into nothingness. Before they could leave, Hama appeared and revealed to Ivan that she was actually his sister and that the abandoned house he was in was the house where he grew up in before being taken to Kalay. After being warned not to seek out any more about his past or his family until after the Mars Lighthouse is lit, Ivan joined Felix’s party and headed north to Prox. Prepared to light the beacon and end the world’s erosion.
Alignment Suggestion: +4: Due to his upbringing, Ivan is very kind and mild mannered. He tried to help those in need and consoles those who are depressed. He also picks his fights carefully and tries to prevent any unnecessary confrontations.
Team Affiliates: Isaac, Garet, Mia
RP Sample: There wasn’t much to see in the room. No matter where he tried to see the unseen, no new paths revealed themselves. Without his ally’s Djinn, he was unable to inspect the inner sanctum, but the young Jupiter Adept wasn’t discouraged. He knew that, even with his limited access, this sanctum would provide the biggest clues to his past and his ancestry. Everything he saw interested the young mage. The texture of the walls, the markings on the floor and walls, the Djinn seal. “It’s a shame I can’t continue into the inner sanctum.” Ivan said to himself as he finally prepared to leave. However as he approached the teleport symbol, he heard the sound of coughing behind him. Quickly turning around Ivan saw no being that could have been the cause of the sounds he was hearing. “Maybe I’ve been here for too long. I better go home and rest for now.” But as soon as these thoughts left his mind, Ivan heard another sound, a psychotic laugh. Looking around, Ivan still saw nothing. “I saw nothing enter this room, what could be making that noise?” Facing the direction of the laughter, Ivan focused his mind and used reveal on the general area. As his senses allowed him to see the unseen, the young Wind Seer saw it. A shadowy figure stood in front of Ivan. It was hard to tell if the being was even human. However its twisted laughter was enough of a hint for Ivan to know that this… person wasn’t a friendly figure. “Who or what are you and what is your business in this sanctum?” Ivan shouted hoping to at least understand the figure in front of him, but the only response he got was a growl and the figure assuming an attack stance. Ivan reacted by concentrating his psynergy into a bolt of lightning striking the ground where the creature was standing, but the bold seemed to just pass through it without having any visible effect on it. “It… did nothing. Perhaps it’s immune to psynergy.” Without giving the enemy a chance to catch him off guard, Ivan drew his blade and charged at his mysterious foe. But to his surprise his blade went through it as if he was slashing through the air. Looking back at his target, the figure seemed to evaporate into thin air. Ivan was in shock and used Reveal on every area of the room, but found nothing. “Was that just a hallucination?” Ivan walked up to the sealed door to the inner sanctum and lowered his head. “Even if it wasn’t there’s no way I’d be able to pursue it. I might as well leave now.”
