Another step towards a police state, armed police is one thing but sub-machine guns is just crazy, how long before an 'accidental' death? -------------------- |

BBC Though there seems to be some confusion... the cinemas say that WMC adivised them not to show it... the Police deny it! BTW I found this comment on the Armed Police article...
Hasn't Joburg got one of the highest Murder rates in the world? Even though apparently it is now falling there are still 50 people murdered each DAY. I think London's rate is around 170 a YEAR. -------------------- ONWARD AND UPWARDS

The problem of gun crime could be ended instantly if cowardly politicians grasped the nettle and legalised all drugs.
(IIRCC, the West Mids Cops banned the films The Clash and Steppin' Razor when I was a kid.) Apparently the final scene in this film is a drugs dealer and murderer getting away with 100k in his back pocket.
Not sure how positive that is on the viewer. To be fair the article does actually say the Police have denied they have banned it . The other point Handsworth cemetry is "full of the graves of young people who have died because of drugs "@ @ West Midlands Police on Five Live today. Yeah I mentioned that they have said that they said nothing... strange that as the Cinema chain say the opposite?! I can't see the Cinema making the decision to ban it off their own back... someone believable, if not The Police, then a senior Police Officer must have spoken to them.
On the quote, do they really believe that a film (even if they get away with it in the end) will make kids go out and join a gang?! -------------------- ONWARD AND UPWARDS

If someone in a gang area wanted to join a gang, they'd already be in one. It's just PC Britain making themselves look like they're earning their money. -------------------- bouncebackability...

Fair points, i'm sure the films about the Krays or Mafia etc have sparked people to hot foot it a life of crime.
The vast majority of criminals have gone that way at early teens. |

Police already have armed response units and that is as far as it should go. ATM it is rare for police to be shot but if they carry arms criminals will up the anti and we will see more deaths, not less. Can't see arming police has improved things in America. Also police are not infallible or immune from 'bad apple syndrome', more guns on the street is no guarentee of security for Joe public.

I disagree (as you would probably have guessed). In my opinion the solution is for criminals to fear the punishment that their actions will incur. At present they don't. -------------------- www.unitedweare.co.uk

Having spent 15 months living in the Middle East (Bahrain), I can honestly say that I never felt so safe whilst living there. The main reason for the low crime rate is the draconian punishments, which are feared. Capital and Corporal punishment does have its place, imho. But it'll never happen again in the EU Superstate (British Isles Region - England District). -------------------- England expects that every man will do his duty....

To be fair, most of those complaining I doubt go to London very often if at all.
I'm sure the majority of people will feel safe. -------------------- |

It's a contentious issue but legalising drugs would pull the rug from under the criminals who distribute them. It's the use of guns by these very people which has caused the cops to decide to regularly patrol the streets with guns. The USA has the most severe punishments of any country in the western world yet their crime rates (particularly drug related crimes) continue to rise. It would be wrong to directly compare our society with the USA. Never the less, the example there shows that rather than fear punishment, criminals are more likely to kill people in order to avoid identification and arrest. In Britain, the state has been fighting a war on drugs for the past nearly forty years...and failed. Education about drugs is such that our Prime Minister has stated that cannabis is lethal. (It isn't, there have been no recorded deaths from use of cannabis). He will continue to pour billions into fighting his war on drugs, despite the fact that he clearly knows f**k all about them. It isn't drug use that is wrecking parts of our society, it's the crime associated with it. But that crime doesn't happen on the streets where our politicians live so they can keep losing their war while appearing to be tough on drugs and making others pay the price. -------------------- "We ought to thank our lucky stars that we have such committed and conscientious people running AFCTU, and when times are tough they should be able to count on our support, not have to read some of the cr*p that gets flung their way on here."
