Title: Rooney
madeleymark - June 18, 2012 04:53 PM (GMT)
I think he'll be on fire when unleashed tomorrow v the Ukraine and hopefully for the rest of the tournament :drink5

I hope he doesn't just walk back into the starting line up, Carroll & Welbeck have done us proud so far and don't deserve to be dropped.

Carroll has only played one game!!
Besides Roy has just been on Telly saying Rooney will start and one of Welbeck or Carroll will be dropped.

Thought it might be better to put him as sub and show some continuity after the display and good goals against Sweden plus he's not played a lot of football lateley but as neither a Man Utd lover or loather he is world class
davemather83 - June 18, 2012 09:00 PM (GMT)
Wayne Rooney is not world class! He only scores against the lesser footballing nations does he score international goals against Germany Italy France. No so therefore he isn't World class and he doesn't have the discipline to be a world class player.

Because we play the top sides all time!
People might hate him, but he is a top top footballer.
Mike C - June 20, 2012 06:35 AM (GMT)
He's certainly world class in the club game. On the international stage he's still to show his best but that isn't entirely his fault - although some past mistakes (sendings off etc) haven't helped.
That was his first goal in the finals of a major international tournament since 2004. He was injured ahead of Germany World Cup 2006 and only appeared just in time for the QF and was then sent off. We didn't qualify for Euro 2008. The least said about South Africa 2010 the better.
Looking forward to seeing Wayne "The Rug" Rooney bag a few more goals in the next three games. We're going all the way.
davemather83 - June 24, 2012 09:58 PM (GMT)
Once again World Class Rooney is useless! then again so was Milner and Young.

Comes to a major tournament and Rooney was once again a waste of time
TonyNewport - June 24, 2012 10:53 PM (GMT)
Perhaps someone should have told Roy this was a KO game tonight in the second biggest competition in World football.......
Half the team from a very mediocre Liverpool side.
We were pretty bad ...
GlasgowBuck - June 25, 2012 08:21 AM (GMT)
England fans in moaning shocker.
We werent brilliant, but that's because we're not good enough. The usual headlines of going down like a shot plane have all been put to rest these last two weeks. A united team, plenty of effort - we just lack that quality.
Saves us a spanking off the Germans!

Gerrard and Johnson were the only Liverpool players in the starting team?
Gerrard was our best player this Euro's and there was noone else to play right back...
Ruggy - June 25, 2012 09:41 AM (GMT)
Agreed with Stevie, Gerrard was our best player in the Euros and I know people have there critics about Glen Johnson but I thought he had a very good tournament, made many vital challenges and did well attacking/defending
davemather83 - June 25, 2012 09:57 AM (GMT)
Didn't expect Rooney to score after all Italy are in the top 20 teams in the world! He only scores against mickey mouse teams wouldn't get anywhere near the Spanish or German squads.

Perhaps fat boy shouldn't be allowed near the England squad? :thumbs
In fairness, when he gets the ball there are few - if any - outlets available to him. For all England's effort, there is very poor movement off the ball.
Oh, and if Gerrard is world class, what does that make Andrea Pirlo? ;confused
Old Bucks Head - June 26, 2012 09:40 AM (GMT)
Wayne Rooney might not be in the class of Messi or Ronaldo, and he did have a stinker against Italy, but how could England seriously contemplate omitting their most talented player?
davemather83 - June 26, 2012 03:27 PM (GMT)
Talent is all very well but you got to put the effort in as well and Rooney just isn't interested Pirlo run rings round him and Ozil would have done if we had met Germany.
fly - June 27, 2012 08:17 PM (GMT)
I'm not convinced he was match fit, seemed well off the pace to me.
Matty H - June 27, 2012 10:53 PM (GMT)
I genuinely lost all interest in England since the shambles of the last world cup. It was obvious from the start they didn't have a chance of winning it - I didn't even bother going out to watch any of the games this time :violin And, when we got beat I wasn't too bothered, which I'm not sure is a good thing, but all these people in the pubs heads in hands, etc, they get carried away with the whole England scenario
UP THE BUCKS :afctu:

If anything, the only players that were Mediocre throughout the tournament were half the Man United players. Bar Welbeck... Rooney & Young showed exactly why we as a nation fail.
All the hype about united is cr*p TBH, United turn players boring...
Apart from Lescott, The players from Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal really tried to make a difference. And I'm glad we took Terry instead of Ferdinand.
After all, we only took Terry 'Clearly' because of his skin colour. :headbang
lawleylad - June 29, 2012 08:03 AM (GMT)
We never controlled midfield in any of the games we played, wrong people playing in the wrong formation. Did not have any real concerns about the defence but Milner, Parker, Young, are not international standard. Why didn't Hodgson use Jones and Defoe? As for Rooney he certainly was not fit and how he was allowed to go on holiday to Las Vegas just before the tournament is beyond me.

Before you get carried away I must state that I am not a United fan.
Nevertheless I have never read such rubbish, if nothing else United will always entertain, will always attack, will always pass well, and will usually score goals.
As a nation our issue is simply that we do not have enough exceptional players, and despite Hodgsons best efforts thus far we have not quite created the team/work ethos to paper over the individual shortcomings.
