Title: Rank Colors
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
I figured out how to make everyone's ranks different colors. The color shows up on anything related to who is online as well as whenever you make a post. If you think the colors should be different, give me feedback here. :)
exx - December 9, 2006 03:52 AM (GMT)
The blue doesn't really show up as anything readable against the brown background.
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 03:54 AM (GMT)
Hmm, ok. Any requests for what to change it to? So far (from doing Guests, Banned, Validating), I know that Yellow, Orange, and Purple are also usable.
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 04:01 AM (GMT)
Ok, how does yellow work for you? :)
exx - December 9, 2006 04:05 AM (GMT)
That's better. Yellow I can read.
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 04:09 AM (GMT)
For the record:
Admin = red
Moderator (your ranks have been restored as well) = yellow
Member = green
Guest = blue
Validating = purple
Banned = orange
Willsbigboy - December 9, 2006 06:49 AM (GMT)
HA HA.....The Leader is yellow B-)
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 06:56 AM (GMT)
Heh, I didn't even think of it that way but yeah, hee hee. Trent's yellow too. You're red so you must be the one with blood on your hands.
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 07:07 AM (GMT)
Maybe it's foreshadowing...Trent and exx are Moderators with the gold bars (as evidenced by their colors) and willsbigboy will turn on them and join the zWo someday (as evidenced by his color).
;)
Willsbigboy - December 9, 2006 07:10 AM (GMT)
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 07:13 AM (GMT)
Well, like you would admit it if it was true! ;)
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
Ok, I decided to change the colors slightly to reflect the tiers of posters (Administrator, Moderator, Member). To me, that is rank 1, 2, 3. The first 3 colors of the rainbow are red, orange, and yellow. So, the new (and final) color scheme is as follows:
Administrator = Red
Moderator = Orange
Member = Yellow
Validating = Green
Guest = Blue
Banned = Gray

You made me think I was banned for a second. :P
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 07:25 PM (GMT)
Sorry, Trent. I was playing around with it because I noticed green didn't show up too well for Members and neither did Purple. I thought Gray was too dull and we already established Blue is bad so that left Orange. Then, I thought Red, Yellow, Orange didn't seem right so I switched it to Red, Orange, Yellow. So now, basically, the closer you are to being Admin, the closer you are to Red (the first color in the rainbow).

:lol: I thought when someone got banned, all their stuff was deleted from the board anyway?
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 07:42 PM (GMT)
Well, that is a good general rule but as I've only had to do it the once, I don't know if that would be the actual thing to be done. I'm hoping the situation will never arise again, to be honest.
TrentK - December 9, 2006 07:43 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure...but I thought it was a possibility that I banned myself on accident. :lol:
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 07:44 PM (GMT)
I don't know that that's possible but I'll have to find out.
*goes to look up a way to auto-ban people who suggest HBK is better than Bret Hart...*
;)
exx - December 9, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
Why would you ban people for telling the truth?
Darryl The Hitman - December 9, 2006 07:50 PM (GMT)
*looks up a way to auto-ban people with two Xs in their name...*

Just so everyone knows...
Mc asked nicely if his name could be purple as he's a huge fan of Rain and that's her color. I wasn't able to do it without making the Moderators purple. Purple doesn't really show up that well so I tried looking to see if I could set an individual member's title to purple. I couldn't do that either so I made a rank just for MC and added the color purple to it. I decided to call it Rainmaker but I'm waiting for MC's feedback. If he has a different idea in mind, I'll change the rank. I won't be doing this for everyone (I mean I could but I liked the idea of colors by rank) but since he asked so nicely and we've been online friends for so long (coming up to a year now, methinks), I decided to be nice and oblige him. Just wanted to keep everyone informed. :)
Darryl The Hitman - December 10, 2006 05:40 AM (GMT)
I'm an idiot!
I decided while I was experimenting with rank colors that I would try making my name pink to see how it looked. I made a new rank of Hitman and made it pink and made myself part of the group. Then, I got logged out of the Admin board because I forgot it would make me not an Admin. Now, I can't get back in and have to wait for wills to refresh the page and hopefully reset me as an admin so I can delete the stupid Hitman rank.
I'm so STUPID! :(
Darryl The Hitman - December 10, 2006 05:49 AM (GMT)
Well, thank goodness THAT got fixed! Thanks, wills! I spose it might be possible to make it work if I based the new group on Administrator rather than on Member but I'm too afraid of screwing it up so I'll leave it alone.
Darryl The Hitman - December 10, 2006 07:31 AM (GMT)
I'm glad I changed the colors now. The red, orange, and yellow is very relaxing on the brown background and it fits our color scheme. Hmm--red, orange, yellow, and brown...it's like Reese's Pieces, isn't it? ^_^
Quadruple Tree - December 10, 2006 07:33 AM (GMT)
You notice how it's named "Reese's" with an apostrophe? That means the candy bar is his.
If you're eating a Reese's candy bar, and a guy named Reese comes over and says, "Let me have that," you'd better hand it over.
"I'm sorry Reese, I didn't think I'd ever run into you.
You're a fuckin' bully, man. Let me at least have a piece."
Darryl The Hitman - December 10, 2006 07:34 AM (GMT)
:lol: :lol:
I asume that's from that Mitch fellow? (I'm sorry, I just can't recall his name.)

Yes, Mitch Hedberg.
Here's another candy related one.
"If you eat a Kit Kat, you notice they have "Kit Kat" imbedded into the chocolate. That robs you of chocolate! That's a clever chocolate saving technique. I'm going to go down to the factory, 'You owe me some letters.'"
And a non-candy related one.
"I went to the doctor. All he did was suck blood from my neck. Don't go see Dr. Acula."

What a pity the guy died--he sounded like a comic genius.

IMO, he was a comedic genius. Here's a couple more to go out on tonight.
"My fake plants died because I did not pretend to water them."
"McDonald's commercials always end the same way. They say, 'Prices and participation may vary.' That's why I wanna open up a McDonald's and not participate in anything. I wanna be a stubborn McDonald's owner. I'd be like, 'Cheeseburgers? Nope. We got spaghetti. And blankets. But we are not affiliated with that clown. He attracts too many children.'"
Darryl The Hitman - December 10, 2006 07:49 AM (GMT)
Really? I don't remember ever hearing the "prices and participation" phrase. Is it something in small print?

Yeah, it's part of the small print.

I'd like mine to be a scroll bar with exx going across the screen horizontally and with flashing lights. I think should also be background music featuring my theme song from the efed every time that anyone clicks on a thread I created. Get it done or else.
Darryl The Hitman - December 11, 2006 05:42 AM (GMT)
Hmm...that's a bit beyond my knowledge base but I'll see what I can do. ^_^
Darryl The Hitman - December 12, 2006 03:32 AM (GMT)
Well, LK wanted to be green so wills shuffled the colors, made LK green by adding a LK rank, and I made LK Moderator on the same forums that the Moderators moderate. I prefer having eveyone in the same rank being the same color but as I opened the door by acquiescing to MC's wishes, I can't really say anything. I just wanted to keep everyone updated (in the event anyone carses which, I admit, may not in fact be the case).
Freeze - December 12, 2006 05:02 AM (GMT)
Why not just give everyone a option in the control panel for us to pick our own colors?
Darryl The Hitman - December 12, 2006 05:07 AM (GMT)
If I knew how to do that, it would be much simpler, yes. I can't find that option on the current Admin CP, though. The only way round it is to make ranks for everyone and make them different colors but that becomes cumbersome and ungainly rather quickly.
Freeze - December 12, 2006 05:08 AM (GMT)
That is a problem.
How about we all start a mob and go chase Jeff Jarett?
Darryl The Hitman - December 12, 2006 05:24 AM (GMT)
Well, I suppose I can do it if I keep my wits about me. If someone wants a different color, I would make a new rank (based on the name they suggest), make sure the ranks is assigned the color they want and (if they had Mod privileges before), I'd have to make sure they were able to Mod all the forums they did before.
The reason I liked having people classed by color (which as DL pointed out is somewhat racist although I never thought about that as I was doing it so it wasn't intentional) is so that if we had new members, people could see at a glance by color who was a mod or admin and know who to steer their questions towards. However, since we don't get many new members, that's probably a moot point.
I have also seen the issue raised that we have too many Mods for our total amount of members. However, as I don't want to be rude and remove anyone as a Mod, the only way to fix it is if you all go out and recruit a bunch of new members.
Freeze - December 12, 2006 05:27 AM (GMT)
I'm doin' my best. I'll try asking people in my computer class.
Darryl The Hitman - December 12, 2006 05:35 AM (GMT)
Thank you for that, Freeze. :)
