Name: Claire Rivers Alumni House: Hufflepuff Age: just turned 21 Job Applying for: Professor of Muggle Studies Experience: Recieved the highest NEWT level in Muggle studies and three other subjects. She is a muggle-born witch that grew up on a farm in Ireland as well as won serveral awards and been featured in Witch Weekly for her gardening ablities.
Why she wants the job: It makes more money than her current ones and she feels it would be safer than working in Hogsmeade.
Lesson One: Subject: Intro to Class -Name, house, year level, why are you taking this class and is there anything specific you wished to know about Muggles? (The last two question are dumb, yes, but it gives me a better idea on the direction the class needs to go in) This should take most of the period, the younger students will be assigned muggle pen-pals from my sister’s class in Ireland where she teaches. Homework: Write a paragraph on what you know so far about muggles & subject matter that your previous teachers have gone over.
Lesson Two: Subject: Popular Muggle Culture. -Eat sample of muggle candies -Listen to popular artists -Go over Muggle money (the pound versus the gallon) -Discuss current events in Muggle Britian. Homework : Take one of the muggle magazines brought in, pick an article, and prepare to explain one of the articles to the class in terms they can understand. Owl me with any questions. Bonus points for additional research. Yes, you can use family and friends who are muggles to explain concepts that do not make sense.
Lesson Three: Subject: Muggle Popular Culture Part 2 Students will present their articles to the class for a grade, then class will finish up anything not previously discussed. Then we will go over the chapter in our books on filmmaking and watch part of the film: Robin Hood, a classic English story. Also part of a reel from the film Merlin. Discuss with students. Homework: Chapters in your books on Transportation and Sports
Lesson Four: Subject: Sports & Transportation We will then go over Muggle transportation (historically horses and carriages progressing to Bus, plane, bicycle, underground, automobile, motorbike, ship, etc.) Photographs of each will be provided for the class to look at . If we have time will start Muggle sports: Football, basketball, American football, golf, tennis, lacrosse, baseball, gymnastics, skiing, The Olympic Games. Samples of each sort of sports equipment *note to self* call Kane and ask him to borrow. Homework If you were a muggle, what sort of transportation would you choose to use and why? Short essay but I would like for you to put some thought into the two paragraphs.
Lesson Five: Subject: The Olympic Games Finish going over Sports, and book materials, handouts on Sports and basically a continuation of the previous class. Give studnets an overview of the Olympic Games, including history of and sports played then and now. Table tennis at the end of class if there is time. Homework A paragraph on the Muggle sport of your choice in comparison with Quidditch.
Lesson Six: Subject: Upcoming Weekend field trip to Muggle London for 6th and 7th years. Students will be given some pointers on interacting with muggles and be given answers to any questions they may have. We are pretending we are Americans should anybody have discrepancies in actions and yes, if you want you can have fake names. Go over sheet on Muggle slang. Homework: Trip is graded. Meaning participate in the activities, don’t do anything stupid (International Act of Secrecy) and you all get passing grades. I also need permission forms…
