| So which factions are people interested in?
I quite like the idea of the Imperialists me-self.

| Heheh... I'm surprised
The way it's in my brain is:
Imperialists: Fighty British with slightly violent leaders
Preservers: Moral British with slightly weak leaders
German Empire: Ambitious but skilled.
Japanese Empire: "The Men are tools to be used to achieve our aims" Feudal lords with a few of the emperors suited Scientists in the background with their own projects.
American North: Manifest destiny drives them to try and take eden for it's own good.
American South: Slightly confused mass of wanting to rebirth the south and live free of interference, and wanting to give the north a really bloody nose.
Tsarist Russians: Massive ambition, but over a massively foreshortened field of interest.
Socialist Russians: Communism come early, but guided by an insane nihilist. Propaganda and politspeak with no real planning.
But with a plan.

| See thats a tough question to answer,
The imperialists sound fun, because i like the idea of a "gentleman" officer from the british empire
Also the Neo Samurai are good because... well its japanese culture!

| Well as with everything the "factions" won't be monolithic entities. All Imperialists won't be boorish and violent, and not all Preservers will be touchy-feely hippy types!
It's likely however for the first few sessions that there will be a limit on what factions are present (probably the Darkwall Treaty powers so Britain Japan and Germany) so as not to dilute the playerbase too much.

From your description Rich, the Southern Americans sound cool - but I couldn't bring myself to play one,
(I also like your Janpanese description -
'Men are tools to be used to achieve our aims'

| It was remarkably difficult working on the South without falling into the trap of making them one dimensional ("Slaves are good Mkay")
Yes the Japanese leaders are not that interested in human rights...
Hey hang on.. that's not what you meant is it
