Title: Annotated Outline (Summer Work)

I got my assignment for the summer for APUSH and I need help starting with this assignment. ( This is based after first reading the first 8 chapters of the American Pagent).

You will create a one-page annotated outline based on these readings. Organize the chapter material under one of the following five major ideas/themes/topic. I- The meeting of Cultures II- Transplantation and Borderlands III- Society and Culture in Provincial America, IV- The empire in transition , and V- the American Revolution. Fill in the outline with information from the chapter(s) that supports each main theme. You will be turning in 5 different outliness, some chapters will be combined and some may be slpit between two different topics. None of you will choose to organize in the same way. There is no right way so dont worry about that. Im checking your comprehension of main ideas and organization skills

Can someone explain this ? and perhaps give an example outline (Just the structure) as well. Btw, I'm not very experienced in making outlines (as you can see). Thanks !

Something like that...
Google how to outline or go to ehow.com and search for outlining.
It's really important to know how to take good notes in a history class... Especially AP.
Don't worry, you can do it!

Sorry I missed this topic earlier - I was away on vacation for a while, and this just slipped through the cracks.

But yeah, the outline above is a good one - definitely try and use that one or develop your own system to keep your notes organized. It makes cramming for tests much more efficient.

I can't believe they issue texts and give you assignments before the year even starts. I wish I could do that! Our bookroom has to inventory every book until they can distribute the next year's books.

We have so many schedule changes the first week, that our classes aren't even set in stone til about the end of the second week of school. I have my kids start reading and working in the Guidebook from day one, though.

If they let us give summer assignments, no one would sign up for the class! Or, their parents would have some reason why the students didn't do it, or some part of it. What does your teacher do for brand new students?? Technically, legally, the new kids are not responsible for work previous to their enrollment, but that doesn't change the fact that 5-6 qs on the AP exam will come from those chapters.

How do your teachers personalize this assignment? Chs 6-7-8 are extremely important, and just outlining the text does not internalize the drama.

I had the same question as well (I can tell, we are in the same class...whoever you are). However, I discovered that the titles of those chapters are from the book that we will actually be using during the year, American History: A Survey. I found this website: US History Notes that actually has outlines that will give you the basic info you need to have in your outline. Problem solved!
