Member's Title: [[EmptY]]PageS
Age: 36
Hair Colour: Dark Brown
Eye Colour: Brown
Height: 6’0
Weight: 173
Appearance: Donovan has a rather disheveled appearance naturally, but he does his best to keep it together. His brown hair is usually mussed when he doesn’t keep on top of it, and he usually has a 5 0’clock shadow. He has droopy, deep brown eyes framed with long eyelashes and a charming smile.
Known Relatives: Henry McVane (father, deceased), Rosalynn McVane (mother), Roger McVane (brother), Roxie McVane (daughter)
Distinguishing Marks: The tattoos he hides beneath suits and ties.
Job : English teacher
Personality: Donovan is quirky and always speaks his mind. He doesn’t wear his heart on his sleeve, and while you may think that he cares about you, it’s likely that it’s all an act. He is his own number one, but deep down he is a good man and once you manage to earn his trust he is very loyal and devoted. He would die for someone he truly cared about.
Weaknesses: Donovan is a smoker and can’t go for very long without a cigarette. Or twelve. He goes through about two packs a day, and it is taking a toll on his health. He also drinks from time to time, and thinks of himself as a recovering alcoholic. Yes, in his book drinking a glass of bourbon at night counts as ‘recovering’.
Other Special Skills/Abilities: He’s extremely creative, and a good speaker. He also believes he can talk his way out of anything which has come back to bite him in the ass a few times.
Side Effects/Powers: X-Ray vision
History: Donovan was born into the typical middle-class household. His father did not approve of him from the beginning, favoring his older brother Roger, but his mother was always very supportive and looked out for him. He was a rambunctious kid- well-meaning, but often got himself into trouble and didn’t always apply himself in school. His father said it was because the boy was useless, but his mother knew he was clever, even though he never had all the awards and honors that Roger did.
Donovan never liked his dad, and continued to rebel against what his father wanted him to be all throughout school. He started smoking at the age of 14 and didn’t spend much time at home. He didn’t like to make his mother worry, but he was stubborn and didn’t like living under his father’s roof. He was always independent, comfortable being one of the smart-mouthed ‘badasses’ at school. He never held high regard for authority and believed that he didn’t need to rely on anyone but himself. Until his senior year.
When he was 17 he met Jayla, and his life was changed instantly. She was a rebel- her hair never stayed the same color for more than a month, and she had a good head on her shoulders and a wild spirit that matched his own. He fell for her hard, and they dated for the remainder of their time at high school.
Once out of school, Donovan and Jayla moved to Massachusetts, got a modest apartment together, and were married the year he turned 20. Though he did end up socking his dad in the face at the wedding for referring to Jayla as a ‘two-dollar’ whore, his mother was still proud of her son for going after what he wanted. On the other hand, Donnie did not speak to his father again, and was still on bad terms with the man when he passed suddenly from a heart attack later that year.
Shortly after he was married, Jayla gave birth to a beautiful baby girl they named Roxanne, and Donovan was the happiest he had ever been. He was a mechanic working for a moderate amount of money, but didn’t care much about success or money. He only cared about being able to provide for his family.
Donovan maintained a close, passionate with Jayla for years, until cracks in their perfect relationship began to develop. She wanted more children while he didn’t think they would be able to support anymore with his salary. She told him to get a better job, and heated words were exchanged. Donovan said things he couldn’t take back, however sorry he said he was. Their fights would always follow the same pattern, and Jayla continued to pick away at Donnie, seemingly without remorse.
He did end up getting a promotion at work, and started working as a part-time journalist for the local newspaper on the side. Jayla continued to push him for a baby, and eventually she got her wish and she gave birth to Shawn later that year. They were happy again until it became apparent that Shawn was not a healthy baby. He died at 3 months old. Donnie had come home from work one night to find Jayla in hysterics, and he had to remove Shawn from the crib himself. They did not speak to each other for two days after.
The family was struck hard by the loss, but instead of pulling together to deal with the tragedy, Donovan and Jayla retreated inside themselves to handle the pain on their own. Jayla was pregnant again by the time they had both turned 26, but had a miscarriage. That was the last straw for both of them. Donovan began drinking steadily and Jayla was just plain sick of him. She blamed him for the miscarriages claiming that he had ‘weak sperm’. Donovan said a lot of other things about her, for all the neighbors to hear, and it was clear to both of them that their relationship was broken beyond repair.
Donnie however, refused to give up easily on their relationship. Despite everything, he did still love Jayla as he always had, and thought that she felt the same. He thought that they had been through too much together to just walk away. Jayla did not.
One night, after one of their all too common fights, Donnie had stormed out, and during the time it took him to walk down to a local bar, Jayla had called the police and told them that Donnie had been molesting Roxanne and she herself had suffered his abuse. She told them that her life was in danger and that they needed to come immediately. Needless to say, Donnie was confused on the walk home when he saw a cop car outside his apartment. He was completely drunk and quickly became belligerent in the face of the cops questioning (as Jayla knew he would), and once he realized what was happening, he began to yell at Jayla who stood in the front door, clutching Roxie ‘protectively’ at her side. The cops took him down to the station and held him in a cell for the night until he calmed down.
When informed of what Jayla had accused him of, Donnie was at such a loss for words, that he hardly said anything, which turned out to be in his benefit. With a lack of evidence and Jayla’s open admission that she may have been embellishing (she excused herself due to the medication she was on), Donnie was released from jail the next night. He returned to the apartment only to collect his things, without uttering a word to Jayla. Then he kissed Roxanne goodbye and left.
They were divorced and Donovan managed to get a position as an English teacher at Hilltown, and while living on a campus as a teacher no less is one of the last things he ever expected of himself, he is very good at his job. And that isn’t the only change he’s noticed since living at the school...
