My first post is going to be about Hinduism. Frst of all, everyone who thinks that all Hindus believe in billions of gods, you're wrong. Most of them believe in millions of aspects of one God, Brahman. Its basically a larger version of the Christian Holy Trinity. 3 aspects, 1 god. Anyway, there was a moving passage in my R.S. book saying that this Hindu will pray in a mosque, kneel before the cross, envelope the theories of Buddha and meditate with Hindus. As long as we're all trying to achieve a good life and get to heaven, it doesn't matter who you choose to worship, we're all the same. They believe they will get to heaven by achieving many lives full of good karma, and isn't that what most religions are based on? Do things right and eventually you'll get to heaven? Do things wrong and you won't? I think the Hindus are spot on.

I'm having a deja-vu...

Now somewhere Gene will say: "Did you know that Siddharta founded Buddhism too?" laugh.gif

About Hinduism, I think they should ban it, because it seems to have such a great impact on people's lifes, even more so that Christianity. And I don't think that's a very healthy prospect for science and technological advancements.

Stupid fundamentalists!

Besides they're all meditating 8 hours a day, and that can't be good for the country.

You're saying Hinduism should be banned? I don't understand what you're saying Gilneas, please elaborate.

o_o That's a communistic ideal... No fuckin' way.

And, I didn't say that, that's obviously not true.

Please, Gil, if you want to talk about something, talk about something that YOU KNOW ABOUT. Because, obviously, you do NOT know about Religions.

If you want to ban Hinduism for being "too time consuming", then obviously you haven't seen some of these religions...

Yes, I think communism is great.

And why would I (obviously) be ignorant of something if I oppose it?

Also, I was exaggerating when I said it should be banned, I just don't think it has any place in a future society. Nor does any other religion.

Like we'd get past shitting around in the Stone Age if we never took interest in time-consuming things.

You say religion has no place in a future society, especially if it's a communistic one, but I don't think communism has a place in this future society either. As war is in human nature, so is revolution and rebellion.
Although communism would solve CAPITALISM and DEFECIT SPENDING (arjrkrklweajklsdfkjsad, these things frustrate me) those things can be solved in other easier ways like THE END OF TAX BREAKS. >_<!!!!!!

But as I was saying, if you took away these freedoms from people, they could be happy for a while, but eventually someone would start to wonder what if things were different? and do things considered illegal until discontent was heavy in a whole community.
And it would make people unhappy.

But religion all in all provides more happiness. It causes disagreement, but it gives people more hope, happiness and fulfillment than could be balanced out with taking it away.

A modified form of communism could prove quite useful.

Look up technocracy.

And you're right about the happiness thing, but given enough technological advancements and global peace and stuff, the world would become such a pleasant place to live that there's really no need for it.

If you're saying like, yeah but that's your ideological opinion and not a realistic view; well once the world has been set in motion towards this goal, it will happen.

Good points and ideas, however I still don't think either of us will leave to see these ideas set in motion. With both Hinduism and Christianity it is not life on earth that matters, but the afterlife. Hinduism has reincarnation ideas, but still, it's the same idea. I don't think even least orthodox followers of these religions would want to give up their promise of salvation for new ideas of Earth-living.

If there's a conflict between state and religion, the state will win.

Religion is faith, faith is belief, belief is choice, and choice is something you better not be suggesting to take away from people.

Alright, but how about cutting it off at Believe and then believe in the state.
Make that your priority as opposed to the illusions of divine entities.

(btw, If you think I'm nationalistic, I'm not since my government is run by morons, that's why I want a technocracy, where the skilled rule.)

And then take that in a near-future setting where all of Earth is united. Only one government, and 6 billion people who believe in the same thing. *That* is a human force to be proud of!

It'd be something to be proud of, yes, but so would a place where everyone is free to believe in different things, and does so.
