Howzit all,

Most all of you already know my 07 FJ Cruiser. However, before I bought my FJ, I had always wanted to own a true classic, the Toyota LandCruiser FJ-40. Well, as luck would have it, a friend of my bro-in-law was selling one in Wahiawa. I took a trip up there, gave her the once over, and brought her home.

As you can tell, she's far from perfect. But she has little rust, drives well, and has up to date paperwork. The previous owners have added working AC, an electronic distributor, headers, and a Weber carb.

She needs work, but I'm happy I picked her up. Here's an interior shot:

In the few weeks I've owned her, I've power washed the entire chassis, and stripped the interior and painted it with POR-15. It's a work in progress, but I'm lovin' it. Just thought I'd share with you guys.
BTW, compared with a FJ Cruiser, driving a 40 is like driving a old military jeep. Crude, plenty of gear noise, and painfully slow. But hey, it's almost 40 years old! I was also thinking, since I own a "new" FJ and "old" FJ, I'm going to name my girls "Lady & the Tramp" (You can guess which one is which... tongue.gif ) Anyhow, that's it for now!

Wow Steve, from the looks of it you score a good deal it seems. I can't wait till see it up close. Loos like lot of the original parts are all intact as for me I would love to get one of those one day. You need any help just give me a call. Do you think you ready to take it to Peacock?

How much would you expect to pay for and FJ 40, maybe one with considerable rust, but still running?

Thanks guys.

Billy,

I don't think this one will be ready to wheel for a while. I still need to go through everything to make sure I won't get stranded far from home. Maybe one day, though. For the most part, most of the original stuff is there, and what was added was pretty good, imo.
I almost done with the interior refurb, and it'll be back on the road once I get my brake booster back from the mainland. Thanks for the offer to help. I may take you up on that one day. cool.gif

P,

Thanks for the nice words. Whatcha get? Sparked my curiosity....
I'm looking high and low for rims and tires that are more "appropriate" for this year Cruiser. The PO put the 4Runner rims/tires on it, and needed spacers to boot. As soon as I find my rims, these are gone.

udown,

That's a question only you can answer. 40's are very prone to rusting, and finding one with little to no rust is rare. Mine has rust, but it's pretty manageable. If it's mostly body rust, I'd think that maybe 2-3K would be ok, but there are many variables involved with that, too. Actually, just finding one around here for sale is a pretty rare as well.
